Every year on December 27th !

The Imani Foundation's annual Kwanzaa Celebration on Kujichagalia (December 27th) has been held since 1988.

Have a great time while we celebrate Africa .

December 27th 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

Family activities, cultural activities, music, dancing and the candle-lighting ritual.

Open to the public. All are welcome. A $2 donation is requested to defray costs.

There are some who disagree with the celebration of Kwanzaa. (Click here to read articles from those who disagree with Kwanzaa) Most of those in disagreement with the celebration have disagreements with Kwanzaa's founder Dr. Ron Karenga. Allow the Almighty to lead your decisions and follow the Almighty's will in your life. We keep in mind and value Kwanzaa's roots noting that the last letter "a" of the celebration called Kwanzaa represents America (U.S.A.). We value that Kwanzaa's foundation is rooted in a belif and thankfullness to the Almighty God and furthermore puts God first in it's celebration. We value that while Kwanzaa's creation was focused on African-Americans it also hosts a connection to all people of African descent. We value that Kwanzaa does not promote hate towards anyone. We value that Kwanzaa is based upon a broad pan-african host of African traditions and cultures and is not based simply upon one African culture. We value that the celebration of Kwanzaa is an American creation creation developed by Americans who were struggling to celebrate the African aspects of themselves during a period of America's difficulty. Further these Americans created a celebration that embraced and celebrated an America that didn't exsist. We value that aspects of Kwanzaa include traditions and cultural aspects of Caribbean and other cultures that have African people as a part of thier landscape. We value the recognition of our ancestors, we do not worhsip our ancestors nor consider them to be spiritual intercessors. We value a connection with God and do not encourage using Kwanzaa as a replacement for celebrating one's connection to God.
